Alexandria Kayy is a tireless supporter of, and volunteer in, the Aldergrove community. Over her 18 years she has helped by working on the Extreme Home Repair projects in Aldergrove, volunteered at Abbotsford Regional Hospital, and currently she is fundraising for the Cops for Cancer cause in this community.
Alex graduated from Abbotsford School of Integrated Arts last year and is currently enrolled at University of Fraser Valley, where she hopes to eventually get into the nursing program, possibly even into medical school.
She has been volunteering at Abbotsford Regional Hospital weekly for the past two years, working her way up from unit visitor to assistant team leader and now team leader. She is now in charge of all the volunteers in the program on Tuesdays.
“We talk to the patients and help them to eat or drink, if they need assistance,” says Alex.
Her family’s home in Aldergrove was selected for the Extreme Home Repair four years ago, and this led to her becoming involved in the annual home makeover projects here, organized by the Aldergrove Seventh-day Adventist Church.
“I love living in a small friendly community,” says Alex. “I have lived here my entire life. Helping out families in Aldergrove means a lot to me.
“It is fulfilling to see my hometown thrive and know that I am a part of making it a better place inspires and humbles me.”
Her experience as a dancer over the past 15 years with local dance schools — “ballet is my favourite” — has also branched off into modelling work.
This has led to Alex’s involvement with the current Miss B.C. Pageant, which will be held June 28-July 1 at Fort Langley’s Chief Sepass Theatre.
As part of this undertaking Alex and fellow contestants must fundraise for the pageant’s main cause, Cops for Cancer. For her part, Alex is hosting a silent auction this Father’s Day, Sunday, June 16 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Inventive Nail Salon and Alder Alley in downtown Aldergrove.
“I’ll have plenty of great items, many of which will be keeping Father’s Day in mind, and all proceeds will go to the charity. There will be a really nice fishing rod and some electronics available for bidding,” says Alex.
